Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI)
Job Description
Networks Connect is seeking an experienced Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Specialist to enhance clinical documentation accuracy and integrity. This role focuses on ensuring that patient acuity and services are correctly reflected in medical records, improving overall quality and compliance. The CDI Specialist will collaborate with physicians, healthcare teams, and multidisciplinary professionals while identifying documentation improvement opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct concurrent reviews of patient records to ensure documentation reflects acuity and level of care.
- Initiate and manage provider queries to improve documentation clarity, specificity, and accuracy.
- Collaborate with physicians, healthcare teams, and coding professionals to optimize documentation practices.
- Provide education and guidance to medical teams on documentation improvement opportunities.
- Perform follow-up reviews to ensure updated documentation before patient discharge.
- Maintain and update CDI/DRG worksheets to reflect patient status changes and validate diagnoses.
- Work closely with coding and quality teams to bridge gaps between clinical language and coding terminology.
- Ensure compliance with official CDI guidelines, coding regulations, and industry best practices.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Registered Nurse (RN) required; BSN preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of acute care hospital nursing experience, preferably in critical care (ED, Trauma, ICU).
- 2+ years of experience in a Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) program preferred.
- Alternative: 5 years of nursing experience in acute care with 3 years in critical care in lieu of CDI experience.
- Certifications (One Required or Obtained within 6 Months):
- Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS)
- Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP)
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in 3M 360, Epic, and other EHR systems (preferred).
- Strong computer skills and ability to work in a remote setting.
